Best Reba Ever?

Phish

Song
Reba

Date
Tue, November 01, 1994

Venue
Glens Falls Civic Center

Location
Glens Falls, NY

Though I prefer 12/31/95, this Reba from Phish's seminal 1994 Halloween performance at the Glens Falls Civic Center in New York, is considered by some to be the best ever.

Presented here is 9 and half minutes of jamming that follows the verses all but the first few minutes of this Reba, and at the suggestion of one YouTube reviewer I must warn you, "after viewing this video you may not have a face!" For my money the last three minutes are where it's at.

Visit the HPB for a detailed review of the entire Reba posted on Phish.net by Tim Wade.

Live Phish Halloween 94 CoverYou can find this Reba, a lot more Phish songs, as well as Phish's cover of The Beatles' White Album on the Live Phish Vol. 13 CD.

Thanks to YouTube wizard silverchair97 for sharing the video.

UPDATE: I've decided to run a little contest and the winner gets an all-free set of Coventry postcards. Just post a comment below about your favorite Reba. One commenter will be randomly selected for the postcard set. Be sure to include your email address on the comment form so I can get in touch with you if you win.

Sorry, contest is now closed. Congrats Ross.

Everyone, have you heard the Reba from 11/24/09 at the Wachovia in Philadelphia?  I think you may all change your minds.

WOW! I have always used this song, this version, this show..as my “oh yeha , you dont like phish? listen to this!” song…and by typing in “Best reba by phish” on google, i was hoping to find this one. As a musician, this is FLAWLESS. playing is perfect, sound mixing is perfect, and the jam….THE JAM…...is PERFECT..it is the most steady build, and parts of it sound too good to not be COMPOSED!.....THANK YOU PHISH

Congratulations to Ross!

He’s the winner of the Coventry Postcard Giveaway according to the geniuses at randomizer.org.

Fun to randomly cross paths with my video—thanks for spreading the goodness. Funny thing is that the video is of a slightly lesser quality than the rest of my VHS source only because I watched, rewound, and rewatched Reba so many times over the years.

10/31/94 owns all challengers.  the last 3 minutes are fucking unreal.  best peak ever, some of the coolest shit i’ve ever heard trey play.

i love the 11/17/97 show, but i don’t get what is so special about the reba.  i mean, it is reba so it is great, but it doesn’t stand out to me like this one does.

big fan of the 5-16-95 reba as well as 3-20-92.

I have to agree on the McNichols from Denver…not just the Reba, but the entire show.

12/31/93 Reba owns the faces of all other Rebas

New Year’s 95 is great but my most memorable was 11/08/96. I had a great time that night with some really awesome people.

Keep up the great work on the site!

3-29-92

In 96- summer tour Phish didnt play Reba all summer till Alpine Valley (I think)..People were like when is Reba g0nna bust out..it was a very very awesome version… If u havent heard itr check it out

Lawn Boy, studio… best ever.

Gotta be 10/21/95 - a recent livephish release.

5/16/95 is close too.

Great site - keep up the good work.

I think the best and certainly most underrated Reba was played at HersheyPark Stadium on August 14th, 1996. Most people were too tired from the big drive before and after this show, but the band rose to the occasion during one of my favorite first sets.

The Reba jam started with a flurry of melodic notes from Trey, as each member of the band propelled the improv to all sorts of interesting directions before Mr. Machine Gun made his presence felt with some of the nastiest runs of all-time as the jam hit its peak.

10/31/94 and 5/16/95 are close.

This is a solid Reba, but i have to agree with you, 95 New Year’s Eve at MSG is my all time favorite reba! The jam in that Reba is so insane. It’s not as “out there” as this one, but feel the “communication” more in that one. For example, when the jam starts you can hear Trey start a riff and then you can hear Mike echo the same Rhythm in his bassline, it’s pure magic! The whole jam is filled with great stuff like that. So while this one is solid, ‘95 MSG New Year’s Eve is still the best!

05-16-95 Best Reba. I don’t know what pedal trey uses during the jam part at the end, but the sound he gets on that is very unique and haven’t heard him sound like that. Plus he peeks a few times and the crowd goes nuts. Definetly check that out, I even believe theres a SBD MP3 that phish released at some point or its floating around.

Sweet Reba, but I like 11-7-97 (McNichols) the best.
