Shine a Light Trailer

Date
2006

Venue
Beacon Theatre

Location
New York, NY

In 2006, the Rolling Stones played two nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York under the watchful eye of not only some very lucky fans, but also legendary director Martin Scorsese, who filmed the shows for an IMAX documentary.

Lucky for you, on July 29th you'll be able to watch the show in the comfort of your own home when Rolling Stones: Shine a Light on DVD and Rolling Stones: Shine a Light on Blu-ray is released.

An astonishing musical chemistry that has been evolving, with no signs of calcification, for nearly five decades.
— David Ansen, Newsweek

Shine a Light begins with a pre-performance prologue that includes an amusing look at some of the difficulties Scorsese endured trying to wrap his arms around the production of the show, as well as meet and greet between the Rolling Stones and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Following that, you get a solid concert film that captures the Stones' Beacon shows including plenty of big hits, a few lesser-known songs, guest appearances by Jack White, Buddy Guy, and Christina Aguilera, and lots of intimate camera angles.

While it lacks the cultural context that made The Last Waltz so remarkable, Shine a Light is hard not to like — bringing together Scorsese and the Stones, arguably the best director and best rock & roll band of our time.

If you missed it at the IMAX (or if you saw it and loved it) you'll certainly want to buy Rolling Stones: Shine a Light on DVD or Rolling Stones: Shine a Light on Blu-ray.

And if you've already bought Shine a Light, you can shop for more Rolling Stones concert DVDs right here on Jamtopia.

Steve Winwood w/ Walfredo Reyes Jr. and Randall Bramblett

Song
Dear Mr. Fantasy

Date
2003

Here's a really nice live concert video of Steve Winwood doing his classic song Dear Mr. Fantasy in 2003 with Walfredo Reyes Jr. on drums and Randall Bramblett on organ.

If you believe the folks on YouTube, this one is either “amazing,” “excellent,” “brilliant,” “penetrating,” “a great cut,” “unbelievably great,” “epic,” “fantastico,” “pure talent and artistry,” “incredibly moving,” “indecently good,” “utterly fantastically brilliant,” “a psychedelic masterpiece,” or just plain “DAMN.”

I say it doesn't matter what you call it, just turn up the sound and let it rip. About two-thirds in watch for a beautiful sunset and incredibly soulful guitar work, either of which will certainly melt your face.

Traffic Mr. Fantasy Album CoverDear Mr. Fantasy can be found on Traffic's debut album Mr. Fantasy.

Thanks to jairomtz for posting this video.
