The Triumphant Return of Trey at ROTHBURY, plus 3/4 Phish Reunion!

Despite a few sit-ins over the last year and a half (see Trey with Phil & Friends and Trey with Robert Randolph for example) we haven't seen much from Trey Anastasio since his auspicious arrest in December of 2006.

But all of that was behind him on Sunday as Trey returned to the stage for a solo acoustic set on July 6th at the inaugural ROTHBURY Festival in Rothbury, Michigan.

Trey's ROTHBURY setlist included about a dozen Phish tunes, a Trey tune, and a GRAB tune. And as an added (though expected) bonus, Mike Gordon sat in for a few songs including two new ones — Backwards Down the Number Line and Alaska — though no official word on whether or not these are intended to be “Phish songs.” According to Trey he taught Mike both these of these songs to five minutes before the show.

You can download the entire Trey ROTHBURY set in lossless flac format on etree (Chris Davis and Col. George's Peluso cemc6/ck4 source | Nakguy's Milab VM-44 Link source) or you can download a lossy mp3 version of Trey's ROTHBURY set from mediafire. And stay tuned to this space for more concert videos from Trey's appearance at ROTHBURY.

UPDATE (July 6, 2008): After Trey's set, Mike had a set just a short distance away, and Trey returned the favor by joining Mike on stage (with a Stratocaster) for a jam and Meat. Then, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, there was a ¾ Phish reunion as Fishman joined Mike and Trey on stage for a cover of the Beatles song She Said, She Said!

Update (August 2nd, 2008): See our post about Trey's solo acoustic show at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island.

Update (August 7th, 2008): See our post about Trey & Classic TAB at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Update (August 10, 2008): See our post about Trey & Classic TAB at the All Points West Festival in New Jersey.

Update (September 11, 2008): Trey's going on an eight show Fall Tour with Classic TAB band mates Russ Lawton, Tony Markellis and Ray Paczkowski. Search for Trey Anastasio tickets right here on Jamtopia.

Widespread Calhoun Rocks the ROTHBURY Festival

Photo of Ann Marie Calhoun

For the second time in just over as many months, fiddle-fox Ann Marie Calhoun sat in for an extended guest appearance with Widespread Panic, this time at the inaugural ROTHBURY Festival in Michigan. (See Ann Marie with WSP at Walnut Creek for her previous sit in.)

For this appearance, Ann Marie joined Panic for most of the 1st set including Surprise Valley > Arleen > Surprise Valley and Take Out > Porch Song as well as the end of the 2nd set for Protein Drink > Sewing Machine and finally Life During Wartime.

Bad news... The videos that were once here have been removed by the YouTuber who posted them. I'm on the hunt for more concert videos from the show and will add them as soon as I find them. In the mean time, I've posted a somewhat shaky video of Sewing Machine.

Farm Aid: 20th Anniversary DVD Preorder

Well it only took a little over 2 1/2 years, but on April 1st you'll be able to relive the 20th Anniversary Farm Aid show that took place September 18th, 2005 at The Tweeter Center, Tinley Park, Illinois.

This is just one disc, but it's packed with over 2 1/2 hours of music from a range artists including Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp (all of whom are on the Farm Aid board of directions) plus Widespread Panic, Wilco, Buddy Guy & John Mayer, Los Lonely Boys, Emmylou Harris and more.

Farm Aid started as a benefit concert in 1995, but has since become a larger aid organization that works to increase awareness of and lobby for the importance of family farms, in addition to the annual concert.

Party with a Purpose at the 2008 ROTHBURY Festival

Sorry. You need to Flash to see this widget.

Organizers of the inaugural ROTHBURY Music Festival at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan announced their lineup yesterday and it's quite impressive in both diversity and stature.

Among the over 70 bands confirmed to appear on 8 stages are Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, John Mayer, 311, Modest Mouse, Primus, Snoop Dogg, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Thievery Corporation, STS9 and many more.

The events “purpose,” in case you were curious, is to “harness the unique energy of the live music community into a durable social movement” addressing climate change and clean energy alternatives. To that end, the festival will also include a Think Tank and Energy Fair.

The ROTHBURY Think Tank, curated by Stanford climatologist Dr. Stephen H. Schneider, will feature sessions and roundtables between leading scientists, scholars, writers, progressive political and corporate leaders, youth leaders, and entertainers.

ROTHBURY’s Energy Fair will let attendees get their hands on with cutting edge, sustainable technology and products.

Putting their money where there mouth is, organizers are taking steps to make ROTHBURY a near zero-waste concert through a variety of initiatives including replacing disposables with 100% compostables, recycling and composting, choosing clean energy, carbon-offsetting, and Green Ticket options.

Tickets for ROTHBURY go on sale February 27th and start at around $250 for a weekend pass.

UPDATE (July 6, 2008): Phish fan? Read about Trey, Mike and Fishman at ROTHBURY including setlist, photos, and more.
