I knew it would happen sooner or later…

Phish is coming to Guitar Hero!

Today Activision announced that three live Phish tracks — Chalkdust Torture, Down with Disease, and Sample in a Jar — will be included as part of June's Guitar Hero World Tour downloadable tracks.

And just like the recently announced Phish Rock Band release, Phish will be paired up with Ben Harper who's also got three tracks coming to Guitar Hero.

The release date for the Phish Live Track Pack is June 25th, just four days after the end of Summer Tour, so don't forget to mark your calendars!

Update (June 27, 2009): Just put videos of the new Phish GHWT songs up top and found out the dates of the shows these are from... Down With Disease, 12/1/95 in Hershey, PA; Chalk Dust Torture, 11/16/94 in Ann Arbor, MI; and Sample in a Jar, 12/1/94 in Salem, OR.

The video above is the expert mode bass track of Phish's Wilson from the new Bonnaroo Pack 01 for Rock Band 2.

Can't even image what the guitar track looks like, but this guy S1ckH4nds scored 94,728 with a 461 note streak and 100% of notes hit as a full combo for five gold stars — his first time playing it!

  • A Favor House Atlantic by Coheed and Cambria
  • The Running Free by Coheed and Cambria

Come Waste Some Time with the Phish Geography Game

Sorry. You need to upgrade your Flash Player to play this game.
Think you already have an up-to-date Flash player? Try again.

Having a slow day at work? Might as well kill a few minutes testing your knowledge of notable Phish venues with this great Phish geography game created by Parker H (@tmwsiy).

Just click the “Play” button in the center of the map to get started. During gameplay, the name of a venue will appear across the top, and you'll have 15 seconds to click that venue's location on the map. The faster you click and closer you are to the actual location, the more points you'll get.

Here's a little tip for the geography impaired: click the full screen icon in the top right corner of the map so you can see the labels for those small states in the Northeast.

And in case you're wondering, I scored 176,171 out of a possible 310,000 (~57%). Once you play, post a comment below with your score to see how you stack up.

My only complaint is that there's really no replay value, but then again it's really easy to create your own map game on UMapper so I'm sure we'll be seeing a sequel soon.

Scratch that part about a sequel… it's a done deal already. See update below.

Audiosurf: An Amazing Music Video Game

If you like music, puzzles, and video games, you're sure to love Audiosurf (Demo | Buy | Videos). It's an addicting music video game that's one part Guitar Hero, one part SameGame, and all parts awesome. Plus it's only $10!

To get started, you choose ANY song off your hard drive. Really, any song. Phish, Portishead, Prince, whatever. Audiosurf then analyzes the song and creates a custom level for you to play.

The shape of the track, speed, and mood of the game are all determined by the sonic qualities of the song. Depending on which song you pick, the game can be chilled-out cruiser or a psychedelic rocket-ride.

A game that almost anyone with a love of music will enjoy.

As you slide down the track, colored blocks appear in sync with the beat. You earn points for jumping from lane to lane trying to grab some blocks and avoid others to get the highest scoring combos. As they say, easy to learn, difficult to master.

With three difficulty levels and 14 different vehicles — each with their own strategy and special powers — there's enough replay value to keep you busy for hours. Especially considering you can use pretty much any music you have on your computer (MP3, iTunes M4A, WMA, CD, OGG) to create a custom track.

Not only that, Audiosurf takes it to the next level with online scoreboards (powered by Steam) that let you compete for high scores on your favorite songs, and even compare your score to players that live near you.

Let the games begin!
