Phish Reunion

CK5 Chronicles Vol. 4: Phish Hampton Wallpaper Gallery

Welcome to Vol. 4 of the “CK5 Chronicles” featuring Chris Kuroda, king of the face-melters.

As I reflect on the Phish Hampton reunion, one thing really sticks out: Kuroda kicked ass. Meanwhile, thanks to hundreds of citizen photographers, there's plenty of pics that capture the brilliance of CK5 — and make for excellent desktop wallpaper.

Below you'll find 21 of the best Phish Hampton photos around, each in a trio of desktop-friendly sizes. Love them all? Download the full set with the links to the right.

Hampton Opener Contest Winner: SuprStevie

Congratulations to SuprStevie, winner of our predict the Hampton opener contest and a pair of free Phish tickets.

Win Free Phish Tickets

SuprStevie was just one of 17 fans who correctly predicted Fluffhead would open the Phish Hampton shows, and his name was picked in our live drawing on March 15, 2009. Stevie will win a pair of free Phish tickets to his choice of Great Woods, Camden, Burgettstown, Deer Creek or Alpine. Either way, it's sure to be a blast.

Here's why SuprStevie picked Fluffhead:

Yeah, it's the hopeful choice. Yeah, it's also kind of the optimistic and unrealistic choice. But with all the chanting at IT, the constant fan wishing (and don't think they're immune to what the fans say) and the message it'd send ("we're back and we can play the shit out of even the hardest songs") I think it fits into the mold of what Phish is trying to say. Of course, this is also the band that occasionally ignores big events in terms of bustouts (12/2/03 is a pretty unassuming show for they're 20th anny), so I could be way off. Still, Fluffhead is my guess.

If you like what SuprStevie had to say, don't miss the complete list of entries where you can read over 700 Hampton opener predictions.

Congrats Stevie and thanks so much to everyone who entered.

Phish Hampton: The Dudes in the Front Row

Phish Hampton photo from 3/6 showing tons of dudes and very few chicks

Photo by J.Bryce. Used with permission.

Learn about Phish Summer Tour 2009 on Jamtopia.

Man, I thought this picture of an Umphrey's Aragon crowd was funny, but the Phish Hampton picture above takes the cake. For some inexplicable reason, there's about 4,000 dudes and only 40 46 55 chicks* on the entire floor at the Phish Hampton show on March 6th — basically a 100:1 90:1 72:1 ratio of guys to girls.

We pretend to like the dudes in the front row.
Trey Anastasio

I identified every floor mistress I could find with a little red arrow, but feel free to click the image above for the high-res pic and look for yourself. It's entertaining and sad all at once.

* Thanks to the amateur Columbos who helped find the other chicks.

Update (March 16, 2009, 11:00 am): Well incredibly this made the front page of Digg so welcome Diggnation to Jamtopia. Notably, one eagle-eyed Digger has taken the time to identify a handful of additional ladies in the picture. Thanks Gypzee.

Props also to cryptographic genius kamerononfire who noticed a secret message hidden in the picture.

Update (March 16, 2009, 10:30pm): Got the pic updated to include Gypzee's discoveries. I actually dispute one of his finds but discovered an alternate lady-of-the-rail while investigating, bringing the grand total up to 55. Also pleased to note that the Digg count is up over 3,000. Unbelievable.

Phish! Is! Back!

I was fortunate enough to be at the Hampton Coliseum the past three nights and am happy to say that Phish pretty much nailed it. As we said in our room Saturday morning, if you didn't have fun last night, you're following the wrong band.

In fact, the only bad part of the entire weekend for me (save a few songs I'm not in love with) was the line for the Hampton Phish poster on Friday. We were packed in like sardines for about an hour, most of which we already knew the Pollocks were sold out.

But that was all forgotten when the lights went down and the band busted out an amazing Fluffhead (see proof above) to kick off the weekend, the first since September 29, 2000.

I'm not gonna review every song or detail (there are links to reviews below) but I will say it was a great weekend of Phish shows, with nice setlists, great musicianship, and a handful of special surprises. Not to mention the perfect weather throughout. A great time through and through. Scroll down for the setlist, reviews, and more.

Much respect to mkdevo for posting the videos presented above.

Phish on Twitter: Page Promises It’ll All Be Worth It

Twitter search bar with Phish hashtag

I've been on Twitter for a while now, but never really use it much and certainly never thought to see if the boys from Phish were on there. Well today someone pointed me to Page McConnell on Twitter and boy am I glad they did.

As if I weren't psyched enough for Hampton, his most recent Tweet amped it up to 11…

Page_McConnell is absolutely amazed, exhausted and exhilarated, but it'll all be worth it! We promise

Sweet action. A personal sentiment from the Chairman plus a promise that Hampton won't suck, all in about 85 characters.

Update (February 26, 2009, 7:30am) Oh snap. A comment from Scotty B has me questioning the authenticity of this Twitter account, but either way it got me kinda pumped so I'm leaving it up here.

Update (February 26, 2009, 4:00pm) Well the super-sleuths at Hidden Track have officially debunked Page's Twitter account as being fake, confirmed by Phish’s publicist in a post brilliantly subtitled “Fake It Leo.”

Now back to the original post…

And it's not just (fake) Page blazing the Twitter trail. You can also follow Phish on Twitter (see postscript below) and Mike Gordon on Twitter too. And someone's also tweeting (albeit very infrequently) as Trey Anastasio on Twitter, but I've got a feeling it's not the real McCoy.

That leaves Fishman.

But when I searched for Jon Fishman on Twitter I got bubkus, so I went ahead and signed him up. Hey Henrietta, if you're out there and you want your name back just shoot me an email. It's yours for the asking.

P.S. To whom it may concern at Red Light… feel free to use Twitter as more than just a minimalist press release feed. See Jimmy Eat World's innovative use of Twitter for inspiration.

P.P.S. If for some insane reason you'd like to follow me on Twitter, go here.
